Yulia Mahr is an interdisciplinary artist working across lens-based media, sculpture, and installation. Rooted in her history of displacement, her practice explores human existence, transformation, and interconnectedness, often addressing themes of the body, gender, spirituality, and the passage of time.

Her work engages with social, political, and environmental issues, questioning representation, ownership, and models beyond capitalism. Drawing on her background in theatre, politics, and visual anthropology, Mahr bridges art and social science in her practice.

Recently she presented Unbecoming at Wehrmuehle Museum, Berlin and The Church of Our Becoming at Dover Street. Paris. This autumn sees her immersive installation ‘Speaking in Dreams’ premiere at Compton Verney. She is also known for collaborations with composer Max Richter, including SLEEP and VOICES, staged at major venues worldwide. Together, they co-founded Studio Richter Mahr in Oxfordshire, a multidisciplinary, sustainably focused creative space.
